Wood work Costing calculations
To calculate the costing of wood work including Wardrobes, Sofa, Dining table, Modular Kitchen etc is one of the toughest task in Interior Design and decoration. 1st you need to decide your budget and then go for the vendors to get costing. After this you can do a self calculation for this. But the question is on what basis you decide your budget? Because to calculate the exact costing you would need the detailed design and material details. Mostly woodwork consists of broadly 4-5 elements.
1. The basic structures or framing work
2. The Shutters
3. The Hardware and fitting
4. Accessories: It includes wardrobe self, kitchen trays, designer elements etc
5. Labor charges

Now we can proceed for cost calculation for wood work:
1. Basic Structure and Frames: There are two things, one is factory made (made by machine) and other is man made at site or factory. Factory made always cost 20-25% more than the labor made structures. Finishing can be managed by expert labors.
Costing of structure varies from Rs 300 Sq ft to Rs 700 sq ft depending on choosing base material like Particle boards, ISI boards or Branded boards like Green Lam and century.
2. The Shutters: Shutters should be light weight so you can use high quality MDF boards for this. This may cost in between Rs 175 to Rs 450 depending upon the laminate you choose.
  1. Choosing Hardware and Fittings:In this there is wide range available in market. Varies on the basis of quality, durability and design.
For Kitchens: Numbers of drawers can increase or decrease the costing of total kitchen. If you didn’t planned or designed in a cost effective way it can affect your budget. Because costing of trays and various fittings varies with quality and brand. Try to choose best available quality like 304 steel materials of any brand. Hardware can also be planned as per design.
Handles: Costing of Handles varies with design and quality. There are various items available in market, you can choose as per your budget allows. As it won’t cost you much.
Wardrobe: Don’t need much hardware. It can be covered in 3-4000 only.
  1. Accessories:
There are n number of accessories available for kitchen like Magic corner, Spices holders, Foil cutter, towel holders,  etc. You need to choose it smartly to decorate your kitchen. Too many fancy things can trouble in future. There is not much accessories for wardrobes.
  1. Labour Charges
For a Factory made structures & Shutters the “assembly” cost can be assumed at INR 80 psft. For Hand Made the cost will be 150 – 180 psft
In lump sum costing can be like this
For a Wardrobe of Height 9 Feet X Width 3 feet= 27 sqft
Cost of Carcass & Shutter = INR 1000 X 27 = 27000
Cost of Hardwares (Non Sliding) = INR 5000
Labor Cost = INR 120 X 27 sqft = INR 3240
In total: 27000+5000+3240= 35240 So the per sq ft costing will be 1305 per sq ft
